The Exit: Swim Back to Open Water

It takes courage, but you can escape. Here are 5 practical steps.

  1. Acknowledge the Trap

Admit that your feed might be one-sided. This is not a failure of your character; it is how the system works. Tell yourself: "I am in a filter bubble right now."

  2. Break the Current

Consciously follow accounts from the groups you feel negative about. But look for normal, positive stories from ordinary people, not the extremists. Humanize them again.

  3. Ask the "Why" Question

When a video makes you angry, pause. Ask: "What does the creator want me to feel?" and "What context is missing?". Don’t share until you have answered this.

  4. Seek Safe Contact

Dare to talk to someone different, not to win an argument, but to listen. Ask: "Why do you feel this way?" instead of saying "You are wrong."

  5. Take a Break

Sometimes the only exit is to step out of the water completely. A social media detox for a few days can reset your perspective more than you think.
